Starting a Costume Rental Business

One business venture you can engage in is a costume rental business. To start, you must research on the theme of costumes that your potential customers will patronise. You can look through the calendar of events in your area to determine the festivals, special occasions and other creative social events. When it comes to parties requiring costumes, your most typical market will be the children. Thus, you can also consider determining the schedules of regular school fairs or local children's events held in your area.

You will then have to find suppliers for your costumes. Buy the fancy dresses that you think your clients will most probably rent based on your research. Alternatively, you can purchase the most basic and common ones such as clown, elves, fairies, prince and princess costumes, among others. Later on, you can add more items to your collection as demand rises.

Aside from purchasing your rental costumes, you can also consider making your own. You can have your own designs and either sew it yourself or hire a seamstress. Moreover, you can extend your product line to include wigs or shoes as well as selling face paint or makeup kit.

The location of your shop should also be considered. This should be where many people pass or where there is easy access for customers. Wherever you hold your business, make sure that you maintain a professional image within your store.

Lastly, since you are just starting with your costume rental venture, you have to make active efforts to market it to community organisations and theatrical groups, among others. This is especially important when there are no up-and-coming costume parties and community events.
